A Letter from Our Founder

I grew up watching the women in my family, my grandmother, my mother, my aunts, care for new mothers with deep wisdom and unwavering love. Their knowledge wasn’t written in books or taught in clinics; it was passed from generation to generation, a living tradition of nourishment, healing, and community. They learned from the women before them, and now I carry this wisdom forward.

In those early days after childbirth, when a mother was at her most vulnerable, I saw how food became medicine, how warmth and rest were sacred, and how the presence of other women was as vital as any remedy. These practices weren’t just about physical recovery. They strengthened the bond between mother and child, honoured the transition into motherhood, and ensured the well-being of both.

As our lives have changed, many of these traditions have faded, replaced by fast-paced routines that overlook the deep needs of a postpartum mother. This wisdom holds incredible value, and I want to bring it back to help mothers feel supported, nourished, and cared for during their postpartum journey.

That’s why I created Yuri: to reintroduce time-honoured postpartum care in a way that fits modern motherhood. Our postpartum recovery meals, snacks, and teas are inspired by generational recipes and designed for women’s wellness in the UK and beyond. But more than a product, Yuri is about community. It’s about reconnecting women with the traditions that have nurtured mothers and babies for centuries, preserving generational wisdom so it continues to support the mothers and daughters who come after us.

Through Yuri, I hope to honour the legacy of the women before me and bring postpartum nourishment to every mother who needs it. No woman should have to navigate this journey alone. Generational wisdom still has a place in our modern world, and motherhood deserves to be supported, cherished, and celebrated.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Currently they are all home-made and handcrafted postpartum foods in our home kitchen in London, UK, which has a 5-star food hygiene rating. We make the products fresh every Monday, based on orders received, to ensure mums only get the highest quality and freshest postpartum nutrition. The bars freeze really well, so if you’re meal prepping for your postpartum recovery, these can be ordered in advance and kept frozen.

  • They are made with natural, whole-food ingredients that are traditionally known for their Ayurvedic postpartum healing properties. We slow-cook them on the stove and then mould each one by hand. It takes about seven hours to make 30 bars at the moment — true small-batch postpartum nutrition. We’re hoping to scale up in the near future.

  • Our bars and tea support breastfeeding.  We use Whole-food ingredients only.

Our postpartum recovery bars and postpartum teas are made from natural, food-based ingredients such as ghee, jaggery, almonds, coconut, fennel, dill, gum arabic, poppy seeds, and turmeric. These are all traditionally used in Indian kitchens to support lactation and maternal recovery.

Fennel and dill are classic galactagogues (they help stimulate milk production). Gond helps rebuild strength and tissue after birth. Coconut, almonds, and ghee provide the good fats needed for rich, sustaining milk. Jaggery supports iron levels and energy.

We include many additional ingredients that support postpartum recovery and breastfeeding wellness. However, every mother’s system is different. If you have specific conditions such as diabetes, nut or poppy-seed allergy, or thyroid imbalance, it’s best to check with your doctor or lactation consultant before adding any new food.

Sama Agni Tea is a breastfeeding-safe, Ayurvedic postpartum herbal tea made from whole food ingredients: cumin, fennel, carom (ajwain), and fenugreek. These herbs are traditionally used to support digestion, balance hormones, and boost milk supply in breastfeeding mothers.

Fenugreek is one of the best-known seeds to increase milk supply, while also balancing blood sugar and supporting joint recovery. Fennel (Saunf) promotes milk production and soothes the baby’s tummy through breastmilk, relieving gas and colic in babies.

  • The Matri Poshan postpartum recovery bars should be kept refrigerated as they are made from fresh, natural ingredients. They stay fresh for up to six weeks in the fridge (in an airtight container) and keep well in the freezer for three months.

We suggest removing them from the fridge five minutes before eating and consuming in the morning with a glass of warm milk for better absorption. Most mothers find that one bar a day provides nutrient-dense postpartum nourishment.

The Sama Agni Tea blend keeps well for six months. While it can be directly steeped, soaking it for 6–8 hours before boiling improves nutrient absorption and digestion.

  • Yes, you can. We offer postpartum gift box options with a bar of 4 and 6. These include a message card which explains the benefits of the bars & how to consume them, alongside a message for the postpartum mothers to remind her that this season is as much about her as it is about her baby.

  • We source all our ingredients locally within the UK from trusted suppliers, ensuring that every bar and tea blend is made using fresh, natural ingredients that meet our high standards for postpartum wellness.

  • Yes! These Ayurvedic bars and teas are excellent for women’s overall health, as a nourishing winter snack, or for anyone recovering from illness or needing extra strength in older age. They are nutrient-dense and warming, supporting overall vitality.

While originally designed as postpartum recovery foods, their benefits extend far beyond, they can support wellbeing year-round.

  • Yuri is a combination of my parents name - Yagnesh & Mayuri. Yuri is all about passing on generational knowledge which has supported women for centuries. I grew up in Malaysia watching my mother and grandaunt care for all the new mums in my family. Every aunt had her ' confinement period ' in my house. It only felt right to call our brand Yuri - signifying carrying on the ancestral knowledge baton from them.
